Can CBD Oil Help With Acne?
Acne can be extremely frustrating. But what’s worse is enduring acne throughout teenage years only to have it return in your twenties. There are many products that claim to help, but are they really doing anything?
CBD has become extremely popular in many different products, so it is no surprise that CBD oil is making an appearance in the beauty world. From face masks to lotions, CBD can be found in a myriad of products with claims to target problem areas. Most research on CBD is relatively new, but there are a few studies that claim CBD may help with some of the contributing factors of acne.
Recent Studies on CBD Oil for Acne
In 2014, scientists conducted a study to determine the effect of CBD oil on acne. They found evidence to suggest that CBD has anti-inflammatory effects and may also help regulate the production of oil from sebaceous glands. Through their collective findings, they concluded that CBD may have the potential to help with acne.
However, an article for Refinery 21, Dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner, MD, pointed out:
“There is a big difference between activity in the lab and real world effectiveness of a drug,” Dr. Zeichner says. “A topical product needs to be formulated in a way that allows the active drug to be stable and to penetrate through the skin to reach its target. Many drugs that showed great potential actually have ended up failing in clinical trials because they ended up not working in actual patients despite promising pre-clinical data.”
Additional studies may be needed for further information, and it will be interesting to see what future research finds.
