Hemp Seed Oil vs CBD Oil: What’s the Difference?

Hemp Seed Oil vs CBD Oil

Hemp seed oil vs CBD oil — what’s the difference? With CBD products on the rise, consumers must be wary of overpaying for deceptively marked products.

The Difference

Hemp seed oil is solely extracted from hemp seeds while CBD oil is extracted from the aerial parts of the hemp plant. Hemp seed oil extraction is similar to the extraction processes of olive and coconut oil. The hemp seeds are pressed together with high amounts of pressure until the oil from within the seeds excretes. Hemp seed oil is not without benefits, as it can be rich in fatty acids including omega-3 and omega-6 that are essential for the human body.

CBD oil

In contrast, CBD oil is made from the flowers, stalks, and leaves of the hemp plant. CBD oil contains elevated concentrations of several different phytocannabinoids as well as terpenes and flavonoids. Simply speaking, these cannabinoids are chemical compounds that interact with the endocannabinoid system in the human body.

Hemp Seed Oil

Beauty products are notorious for claiming to have CBD but merely containing hemp seed oil. Hemp seed oil is also discretely labeled as Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil or Cannabis Sativa Oil. Cannabis Sativa is simply the scientific name for hemp. Hemp seed oil can be useful in beauty products, but watch out for inflated prices from the illusion of CBD.

Is It Still Useful?

In conclusion, hemp seed oil can be beneficial since it is rich in essential fatty acids. However, many products heavily marketed as containing CBD do not actually have the array of phytocannabinoids and other benefits that CBD has to offer. Look out for the terms companies are commonly using interchangeably with CBD to properly detect when a product solely contains hemp seed oil.
