Broad-Spectrum CBD vs CBD Isolate

Broad-Spectrum CBD vs CBD isolate Viridipharm

Broad-spectrum CBD vs CBD isolate — what’s the difference?

Broad-Spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD contains almost all of the different components of the hemp plant; most of the cannabinoids, and all of the terpenes and flavonoids.

Our CBD is considered broad-spectrum because it contains all of the naturally occurring components aside from THC.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is pure CBD and has been isolated from all of the other components of the hemp plant including the other cannabinoids. There should be no other active ingredients present and is generally found as a powder at room temperature. Some use it for topical purposes like lotions and creams.

Broad-Spectrum CBD vs CBD Isolate

Since people use CBD for a variety of purposes, there can be a number of reasons why someone might want to go with broad-spectrum CBD over an isolate, and vice versa.

Some report that the flavor of an isolate is milder since it lacks the terpenes and flavonoids that comes along with broad-spectrum CBD. However, it really depends on the company, because the flavor of different products can vary. We have been told that our natural broad-spectrum CBD tinctures are not overpowering and are actually very pleasant tasting. In addition, broad-spectrum CBD can also come in other forms, like gumdrops and nanogels that can help mask unwanted flavors.

It was originally believed that CBD isolate was more potent than broad-spectrum CBD since it is more concentrated. In 2015, researchers studied two groups of mice to find that broad-spectrum CBD provided more relief as the dosage increased, whereas the other group that just received CBD isolate did not get the same effect. Research on CBD is still relatively new, and more studies would have to be done to prove these findings actually apply to people. Regardless, this does not negate the need for CBD isolate, and it may still be beneficial for some people.
